Living Black: Machado-Joseph Disease

A rare affliction affecting around fifty percent of the population of Groote Eylandt in Arnhem Land, is stretching health and housing in the remote location.
Machado-Joseph disease is a rare genetic condition, leaving sufferers in wheelchairs and dependant on others for daily needs, placing an enormous burden on family members and housing.
Video journalist Leah Craven travelled to Groote Eylandt to investigate the illness and how the lack of housing is exacerbating its impact.
