The 24th November marks the 150th anniversary since the publication of the revolutionary “On the Origin of Species by Natural Selection”. This controversial theory challenges the orthodox beliefs of creation and evolution and Alex Dafner examines briefly the controversy from varied Judaic perspectives, with the help of SBS Radio’s Nikki Canning.

Kristalnakht & Aborigine Protest Commemoration

The November 1938 pogrom against Jews in Germany and Austria known as Krystalnacht was commemorated in Sydeny recently. The commemoration also honoured the Australian Aborigine League’s protests against that terrible racist event. Hinde Burstin reports on these events and commemoration.

Felix Mendelssohn was the great 19th century German composer from a famous Jewish family who converted to Christianity in order to find greater acceptance in Germany’s cultural society. Nevertheless antisemitism followed him most of his life and even posthumously. Our regular guest Yosl Winkler presents this overview of Mendelssohn’s life, times and creativity.

My Story: Rav Michel Liebermann

Rabbi Michel Liebermann was born in Antwerp, Belgium and now works in Toulouse, Marseille and Lyon in France, where he also teaches Yiddish. He is currently also involved in interfaith organisations trying to improve relations between the religions in that part of the world. Our European correspondent Max Kohn spoke with him in Paris recently.
