Hundreds of thousands of people joined a funeral procession Thursday for Patriarch Pavle, who led the Serbian Orthodox Church through its post-Communist revival and the Balkans' bloody ethnic wars in the 1990s. Pavle, a highly popular patriarch known for his modesty and humility, died over the weekend at age 95 after being hospitalized for two years with heart and lung problems. He had led the 7 million-member church since 1990. In memory of Patriarch Pavle we talk to the Belgrade-based analyst with the weekly NIN magazine and the author of his biography Jovan Janjic. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ended his one-day official visit to Serbia and left Belgrade. The visit took place on the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade from German occupation. Medvedev headed a numerous political and business delegation.
"Relations between Russia and Serbia are considerably improving," it is stated in the Belgrade daily Politika, in a wide report on the visit of the Russian president.
"Serbian and Russian Presidents, Boris Tadic and Dmitry Medvedev respectively, assessed in Belgrade that relations between the two countries have been on an upward scale and that Serbia's territorial integrity cannot be questioned," Politika reports.
In the first reactions to the visit of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to Belgrade, Russian media report that it is focused on economic issues, said for SBS Ljubinka Milinčić, Politika’s foreign correspondent.

Serbian Film Festival

This year marks the ninth year of screening of Serbian films to Australian audience. Festival secretary Milica Kozlina told us that this year, for the first time, festival has been held in two additional cities: Canberra and Wollongong. She also talks about next year special program for the Festival’s 10th anniversary. Девети Српски филмски фестивал ове године имао је изузетно добар пријем код публике у Сиднеју, Камбери и Мелбурну. Секретар фестивала Милица Козлина каже да сличан пријем очекује и у осталим аустралијским градовима. Она такође прича о избору филмова и припремама за следећу годину, када ће бити 10 јубиларни Фестивал српског филма. A Serbian Parliamentary delegation is making its first visit to Australia in 30 years.The delegation is being led by Speaker of the Serbian National Assembly Dr. Slavica Djukic -Dejanovich. In an interview with S-B-S Radio's Serbian program, she said the visit is about building ties and encouraging economic and social co-operation:"The reason for coming to Australia is the invitation from the presidents of the upper and lower houses of the Australian parliament. I have formed the delegation from the governing party and the Serbian opposition. And we are here now to talk about parliamentary co-operation and topics related to ordinary life, important for Serbians as well as for Australian citizens." Српска парламентарна делегација у посети је Аустралији након 30 година. Делегацију предводи председница парламента др. Славица Ђукић-Дејановић. У интервјуу за СБС радио на српском језику она је рекла да ће посета бити усмерена на обнављање сарадње као и на побољшање економских и социјалних односа. "Повод да дођемо и то да направимо као апсолутни приоритет долазак у Аустралију су управо учинили својим заједничким позивом председници горњег и доњег дома парламента Аустралије, који су ме позвали. Ја сам фомрирала делегацију коју чине представници и парламентарне већине и опозиције у парламенту и ево нас овде да разговарамо на теме парламентарне сарадње али и на неке друге, животне теме, које су итекако важне и за Србију и за Грађане Аустралије", рекла је Ђукић-Дејановић.

Bushfire claims 200 lifes

Australia's worst ever bushfire disaster is now known to have claimed in excess of 200 lives. Police in VICTORIA say the death toll is unlikely to rise significantly. Despite earlier speculation that the number of dead could rise to 300, Victoria's Deputy Police Commissioner (mr) Kieran Walshe says most of the people listed as missing have been found.

Највећи и најтрагичнији пожар који је икад захватио аустралијску државу Викторију однео је 200 живота. То су најновији подаци које је викотријска полиција објавилау четвртак увече. Међутим сматра се да број није дефинитиван али и да се неће драстичније повећати. Без обзира на раније спекулације да би број мрвтих могао да достигне цифру од 300, заменик шефа викотријске полиције Kieran Walshe каже да је полиција пронашла већину људи који су првобитно били излистани као нестали.
