Earlier this year, the federal government announced it was cutting AUSTRALIA's permanent skilled migration program because of the Global Financial Crisis.
The government said it wanted to help people already in AUSTRALIA to win the dwindling number of new jobs.

Ez az év nem kecsegtetett azoknak, akik végzettségükre illetve szakmájukra támaszkodva szerettek volna Ausztráliába bevándorolni.
A szövetségi kormány idén ugyanis egyre szűkebbre vonta a keresett szakmák listáját a globális gazdasági válságra való hivatkozással.
A kormány ugyanakkor ezzel az intézkedésével az itt élőket szeretné segíteni, akik egyre nehezebben találnak szakmájukban lehetőséget.

Advocacy and support groups for the so-called Forgotten Australians and child migrants say while nothing can make up for the past, the federal apology will help to begin the healing.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has formally apologised to the hundreds of thousands of people placed in institutions as children last century, including more than seven-thousand child migrants.

On November 16, the federal government will formally say 'sorry' to her, and the hundreds of thousands of other people who were abused and neglected as children after being placed in institutions or foster care.

Gambling in Australia

The Productivity Commission says Australians are addicted to gambling and it says tough action is needed to wean people away from poker machines in particular.
The Commission has released its draft report into gambling, proposing strong new harm minimisation measures.
The report shows Australians spend about 18-billion dollars a year on gambling, which includes 12-billion dollars a year on poker machines alone.
It also finds that AUSTRALIA's ban on online gaming is not working, with Australians increasingly gambling on websites based in other countries with minimal consumer protection.
