SBS’s commitment to world class sports coverage and quality Australian content was rewarded last night when it won three awards at the 2007 Logies in Melbourne.
SBS’s awards included:
• Most Outstanding Sports Coverage for the 2006 FIFA World Cup;
• Most Outstanding Actress – Susie Porter, Remote Area Nurse; and
• Most Outstanding New Talent – Emma Lung, Stranded.
“This is testament to the breadth and depth of talent at SBS and I congratulate all the winners and everyone involved,” Managing Director Shaun Brown said.
“The 2006 FIFA World Cup was a logistically ambitious production for SBS with 64 live matches televised during the month-long event in Germany.
“This Logie win really cements SBS’s position as a premier sports broadcaster and confirms our football commentators and presentation team really are second to none.”
Original Australian drama Remote Area Nurse and Australian short film, Stranded – both commissioned by SBSi - also received recognition with wins for the two lead actors.
“The Logies for Susie Porter and Emma Lung are well deserved, both actors really shone in these original productions and this was clearly recognised by their peers who voted for the awards,” SBS’s Director of Content, Matt Campbell said.
“But the awards are also recognition for SBS’s commitment to fostering new talent and investing in quality Australian content.”
SBS received eight Logies nominations in total.
“The three awards and eight nominations are further proof that SBS continues to be the natural home for quality programming sourced from both Australia and overseas,” Shaun Brown said.
“We are committed to continuing to invest in both the people and the programs that will ensure SBS continually delivers exciting entertainment, sport and news and current affairs programs to our discerning audience.”
