SBS RELEASES FIVE-YEAR PLAN

SBS Managing Director Shaun Brown has today released the SBS Corporate Plan which charts the broadcaster's activities over the next five year period.

Mr Brown said the Corporate Plan 2007-12 would ensure that SBS continues to be relevant to the evolving Australian audience, grows revenue to invest in quality content, performs as a modern media organisation and builds and maintains valuable relationships and partnerships across the community.

"SBS is innovative, takes risks with original content and is committed to quality broadcasting whatever the platform," Mr Brown said.

"SBS consistently performs exceptionally well given its limited resources but we cannot be quarantined from change and must embrace the opportunities thrown up by global technological shifts.

"Most importantly, SBS must find new ways to offer all Australians the chance to explore the real, multicultural Australia."

SBS achieved many successes during the life of the previous Corporate Plan, including:

• increased overall audience numbers;
• expansion of World News Australia to its successful one-hour format;
• an increased slate of original dramas; and
• greater revenue generated by in-program breaks.

"There have been challenges and there have been many successes. As with all organisations, there is always scope to do better and to that end the Corporate Plan 2007-2012 sets the bar even higher," Mr Brown said.

"Over the next five year period, we expect to deliver more original content to a greater audience, while at the same time embracing the opportunities provided by broadband and digital technology.

"Despite the myriad of ways consumers can access information, experience shows that they still turn to trusted sources to access content that is entertaining or informative.

"SBS is very well placed to meet that need and will continue to provide the highest level of engaging and relevant content."
